Continuing Education Policy for Nursing Faculty
Purpose: The purpose of continuing education scholarships is to encourage continuing
education opportunities for nursing faculty at Research College of Nursing, Avila, and William
Jewell.
Eligibility: The conferences/workshops should provide information that is applicable to the
faculty member's field and should ultimately benefit enhanced student learning.
Stipulations: Evaluation of applicants will be based on the completion of an essay; letter of
recommendation
from nursing peer; and submission of conference/workshop brochure.
Procedure: The faculty member should complete the appropriate application and
submit the required
documentation to The Research Foundation for review by The Research
Foundation Program
Review Committee. Application deadlines are January 1, April 1, July 1
and October 1.
Continuing education scholarships will fund only registration fee, hotel and travel expenses
up to
$500 for conferences in the Kansas City area, up to $750 for conferences held in
Missouri and
Kansas and up to $1,500 for conferences in the continental United States.
Scholarship recipient is
only eligible to receive one scholarship per 12 months based on the
date of conference.

The recipient assumes all liability for the payment of taxes and penalties

The Research Foundation, formerly the fund raising entity for Research Medical Center,
became a separate non-profit organization following the sale of Health Midwest/Research
Medical Center to HCA, a for-profit company on April 1, 2003. The Foundation exists for
the continued benefit of the communtiy and its improved health status.
