Harmon Diabetes Center
The Center, founded in 1987, was one of the area’s first diabetes education programs. On Oct. 1, 2004, the Center became a program of The Research Foundation, a local non-profit organization committed to strengthening the community and empowering people to live healthier, productive lives through our health education and scholarship programs.
In 2007, it was renamed the Harmon Diabetes Center to honor the Harmon family and their generous support of The Research Foundation. In October of 2011, Centerpoint Diabetes Center in Independence merged with Harmon Diabetes Center. The Center offers diabetes education and support to patients battling the life-changing illness.
The Harmon Diabetes Center has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association as meeting the National Standards for Diabetes Self-Management education since 1999. Patients learn about meal planning, physical activity, blood sugar monitoring, medicine options, how to reduce risks and learn lifetime self-management skills.
