Why Diabetes Education

Diabetes is a serious medical condition. When not properly managed, diabetes can lead to many life-threatening complications including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, blindness and lower limb amputations. However, diabetes does not have to be a fatalistic disease. When blood sugar levels are managed as close to normal levels as possible through diet, exercise and medication, people with diabetes can live full lives and drastically reduce the likelihood of developing complications. Our program covers a broad spectrum of topics to help patients change the course of their diabetes:

  • Blood sugar monitoring

  • Meal planning

  • Physical activity

  • Medicine options

  • Reducing risks

  • Accessing medical care and supplies

  • Lifetime self-management skills

  • Diabetes truths and myths

  • Support groups

  • Insulin pumps, pens, and devices
