Employees Contributing To Help Others

Facing the Unexpected

“I would encourage other employees to donate to the fund because it helps the people we work with every day. We never know what life will throw our way and it is great to give back when are able.”

In August, a Research Medical Center employee flatlined during a medical procedure. After the procedure, she was placed on a ventilator in the intensive care unit. Her journey to recovery was long, so she was forced to take a leave of absence at work. During her time away from work, her pay was cut 60 percent.

“In this economy, the pay cut was difficult to manage. Especially because I am sole caregiver to my disabled husband.”

She decided to ask for help through The Research Foundation’s Employee Assistance Fund. The fund supports Research Medical Center employees in emergency financial need by paying for basic needs such as rent or mortgage payments, utility payments, and food.

“The Employee Assistance Fund helped cover a mortgage payment. That was very helpful to me and my husband.”

The Employee Assistance Fund, established through The Research Foundation in 1994, has been and continues to be exclusively funded by employee contributions. This employee encourages other Research Medical Center employees to contribute to the fund because, just as she wasn’t expecting her medical issues, life can present the unexpected.

“I would encourage other employees to donate to the fund because it helps the people we work with every day. We never know what life will throw our way and it is great to give back when are able.”
