Research Golf Classic raises nearly $77,000 for The Research Foundation

KANSAS CITY, Mo., (Aug. 18, 2020) – The 31st Annual Research Golf Classic raised nearly $77,000 in net proceeds for The Research Foundation’s health education and scholarship programs.

The annual Golf Classic was hosted at Milburn Country Club in Overland Park, Kansas Monday, August 17. Major sponsors included Research Medical Center, LabCorp, AT Abatement, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas City, Flooring Systems, Inc., Heartland Electric Corporation  Hospice Care of VNA, Integrated Opening Systems and  JE Dunn Construction. 

Golfers enjoyed a number of activities throughout the day including a barbecue lunch sponsored by Ascentist Ear, Nose & Throat, Italian sausage compliments of Scimeca’s, root beer floats compliments of Belfonte, beverages compliments of County Beverage and Pepsico and snacks compliments of Canteen Vending and Sysco. The round of play was followed by a cocktail hour sponsored by Clarkson Construction Company and a slider bar sponsored by  ECHO Power Engineering. 

Team awards included:

First place with a score of 54: Brian Burkett, Andrew Peterson, Daniel Rezin and Dave Ruf

Second place with a score of 54: Jim Dougherty, Bill Kerns, Luke Popp and Mike Popp

Third place with a score of 54: Dr. Andy Armstrong, Dr. Jeff Cameron, Jeff Kantazer and Dr. Brian McCroskey

Fourth place with a score of 55: Zach Donovan, Danny Lamping, Jake Reid and Nick Zuk

Fifth place with a score of 55: John Clune, Mark Compton, Scott Herron and McKenzie Perry

Sixth place with a score of 56: Dr. Andrew Cusser, Dr. Jason Eppler, Dr. Tucker Lienhop and Dr. Erik Stamper

Seventh place with a score of 56: Jack Foster, Kent Stallard, Dr. Brad Sullivan and Mike Vessels

Eight place with a score of 56: Julio Garcia, Dr. David Rios, Ray Romero and Lance Wiedner

Ninth place with a score of 57: Dr. Doug Cowan, Dr. Frank Feigenbaum,  Dr. Jeff Markey and Dr. David Rudman

All ties were determined by a scorecard play-off.

Course contest winners include:

Hole 1, Closest to the pin in two shots: Luke Popp

Hole 3, Closest to the pin: Dr. Jeff Cameron

Hole 4, Closest to the pin in two shots: Scott Herron

Hole 5, Closest to the pin: Nick Wirtz

Hole 7, Longest putt: Dr. Jason Eppler

Hole 8,  Longest drive (age 55 and over): Delbert Kinchelow; Longest putt: Dr. Austin Koch

Hole 9, Longest putt: Bruce Murphy

Hole 10, Longest drive (age 54 and under): Matt Bauer; Closest to the pin in two shots: Brian Burkett

Hole 11, Closest to the pin in two shots: Brian Burkett

Hole 12, Closest to the pin in two shots: Larry Maxfield

Hole 13, Longest putt: Dave Hayes

Hole 14, Longest putt: Zach Donovan

Hole 16, Longest drive for ladies: Amber Boes; Closest to the pin in two shots: Jeff Kanatzer

Hole 17, Closest to the line: Kirk Bushy

Hole 18, Longest putt: Brian Burkett

Lon Swizter was awarded first place in the putting contest with Doyt Ladd winning second place and Dr. Frank Feigenbaum winning third.

“Several aspects of the Research Golf Classic were different this year, but the community support of our event remained unchanged. ” Rose Simone, The Research Foundation tournament director, said. “The Research Foundation is lucky to have contributors and friends that continuously celebrate our work.”

The Research Foundation is a not-for-profit organization in Kansas City, Missouri dedicated to empowering people to lead healthier lives through health education and scholarship programs including injury prevention, nursing and allied health scholarships, continuing education opportunities in health care and assistance to low-income cancer patients.
