Candlelight Ball raises nearly $107,000 for health education and scholarships

KANSAS CITY, Mo., (Nov. 5, 2018) – Supporters of The Research Foundation raised nearly $107,000 in net proceeds for health education and scholarship programs at the 2018 Candlelight Ball Saturday, November 3.

The Candlelight Ball is a biennial, black-tie gala that includes a cocktail reception, five-course gourmet dinner and dancing. Proceeds from the fundraiser support the Foundation’s programs that provide undergraduate nursing scholarships, injury prevention education to youth, nursing faculty development opportunities, continuing medical education for local physicians, nurses and allied health professionals and an appearance center for low-income cancer patients in Kansas City.

Hanna Sheeran, a senior at Research College of Nursing and recipient of two undergraduate nursing student scholarships from the Foundation, began the evening by sharing her experiences as a nursing student and the support she has received from Foundation donors.

Funds were also raised through the “Golden Ticket” fundraiser, which allowed guests the opportunity to win a basket of local merchandise valued at more than $6,000. The winner of the “Golden Ticket” basket was Dr. Joe Restivo with Sarah Cannon Cancer Institute at Research Medical Center.

The event’s major underwriting sponsor were Research Medical Center and UMB Bank. Other major sponsors included J.E. Dunn Construction Company, LabCorp, David E. Ross Construction Co., Anesthesia Associates of Kansas City, PC, Centers Health Care and Mark and Jackie Van Blaricum. Dr. Austin and Mandy Lehr served as chairs for the event and Dr. JP and Kyleigh Armilio served as co-chairs.
