The Research Foundation receives funding from First Federal Bank of Kansas City
KANSAS CITY, Mo., (Oct. 29, 2018) – The Research Foundation’s Community Fund for Cancer Patients has received $5,000 from First Federal Bank of Kansas City.
The fund provides support for low-income patients fighting cancer. Patients who are insured by Missouri Medicaid or are low-income are eligible. The Research Foundation assists with expenses like medication, nutritional supplements, gas cards, utilities and food cards.
Robert Fitzgerald, First Federal Bank of Kansas City senior loan officer, requested memorials be sent to The Research Foundation’s Community Fund for Cancer Patients after his wife, Kelli, lost her battle to cancer in March. He then nominated the fund to the bank’s contributions committee. The Research Foundation’s cancer fund was selected after being voted on by the bank’s employees.
“This money is used in our community to help those less fortunate in their time of need. This is a safety net for our community,” Fitzgerald said.
Prior to the bank’s contribution, The Research Foundation was only able to award $100-$200 per patient. The additional support from First Federal Bank of Kansas City allowed The Research Foundation to increase the amount given to each patient. Patients can now receive up to $300 in assistance.
