The Research Foundation awards $48,000 to LPN students in newly launched scholarship program

KANSAS CITY, Mo., (Jul. 9, 2025) – The Research Foundation has awarded $48,000 in scholarships to Kansas City metro area residents in licensed practical nurse programs.

The Research Foundation launched a new scholarship opportunity for licensed practical nursing (LPN) students in January 2025. The foundation is offering these new scholarships to alleviate barriers and support training for quality nurses in the Kansas City community. Awards range from a minimum of $1,000 to a maximum of $3,500. Applicants must be currently enrolled as students in the LPN programs at Cass Career Center in Harrisonville, Missouri, Donnelly College in Kansas City, Kansas, Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas, Kansas City Kansas Community College in Kansas City, Kansas, or Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouri.

Scholarship recipients from the LPN program at Cass Career Center in Harrisonville, Missouri include Catherine Mungora, Starr Riely, and Jaden Zellers.

Scholarship recipients from the LPN program at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas include Elisabeth Hernandez, Tina Layton, Nelly Njoroge, Daijae Pace, Rada Lewis, Akiko Raudez, Maria Torres Garcia, and Dawnisha Wesley.

Scholarship recipients from the LPN program at Kansas City Kansas Community College in Kansas City, Kansas include LaToya Brown, Ryan Jenkins, Faith Jepkogel, and Ace Kinmon.

Scholarship recipients from the LPN program at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouir include Thrymeeka Anderson, Maurquala Butler, Erin Cutler, Zackary Marks, Huda Serdah, and Karla Sevilla.

Applicants must be residents of one of the six counties in the Kansas City metro area. These include Cass, Clay, Jackson, or Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson or Wyandotte counties in Kansas. Preference was given to residents of Jackson County and residents of Kansas City, Missouri. Preference was also given to students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The Research Foundation also awards scholarships to traditional and transfer BSN, accelerated BSN, doctor of physical therapy, radiologic technology, nuclear medicine technology, and radiation therapy students.
