The Research Foundation awards $41,000 to LPN students in Kansas City area

KANSAS CITY, Mo., (Jul. 9, 2026) – The Research Foundation has awarded $41,000 in scholarships to 15 Kansas City metro area residents in licensed practical nurse programs.

The Research Foundation launched a new scholarship opportunity for licensed practical nursing (LPN) students in January 2025. The foundation is offering these scholarships to alleviate barriers and support training for quality nurses in the Kansas City community. Awards range from a minimum of $2,000 to a maximum of $3,500. Applicants must be currently enrolled in the LPN program at Cass Career Center, Harrisonville, Missouri; Johnson County Community College, Overland Park, Kansas; Kansas City Kansas Community College, Kansas City, Kansas; or Metropolitan Community College, Kansas City, Missouri.

Scholarship recipients from the LPN program at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas include Elleni Mebratu Gugsa, Krishaun Mitchell, Karen Salmeron Roque, and Marisol Toress-Garcia.  

Scholarship recipients from the LPN program at Kansas City Kansas Community College in Kansas City, Kansas include Syrai Burris, Rebecca Esparza, Stephanie Franco, Jerlesa Garner, Nicole Gurrola-Mota, Cera Hathaway, and Martha Mboya.

Scholarship recipients from the LPN program at Metropolitan Community College in Kansas City, Missouir include Alizabeth Bradney, Kealani Tuimaono, Lakieva Jackson, and Alexis Troy.

Applicants must be residents of one of the six counties in the Kansas City metro area. These include Cass, Clay, Jackson, or Platte counties in Missouri and Johnson or Wyandotte counties in Kansas. Preference was given to residents of Jackson County and residents of Kansas City, Missouri. Preference was also given to students with a minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher.

The Research Foundation also awards scholarships to traditional and transfer BSN, accelerated BSN, doctor of physical therapy, radiologic technology, nuclear medicine technology, radiation therapy, and medical laboratory science students.
